Accessibility statement

We want PupilRoute to be usable by everyone in a local authority transport team, including people who rely on assistive technology. Public sector bodies procuring PupilRoute have their own accessibility duties, and we design the service to help meet them.
Our commitment
We aim to meet Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 level AA. This shapes how we build the service:
- Semantic structure and clear heading order, so screen readers can navigate.
- Keyboard operability, with a visible focus state on interactive elements.
- Colour is never the only way information is conveyed; text meets AA contrast on our core surfaces.
- Light and dark themes, with a system-preference option.
- Reduced-motion preferences are respected.
Known limitations
Some areas are still being brought fully in line with AA, and we are prioritising them:
- The interactive map is visual by nature; key figures it presents are also available as text in the tables and reports.
- Some data-dense tables are best used on a larger screen.
Assistive technology
PupilRoute is tested against current versions of major browsers with common screen readers and keyboard navigation. If you use an assistive technology that does not work well, please tell us so we can prioritise a fix.

If you find an accessibility barrier, or need information in a different format, contact misi@pupilroute.uk. We aim to respond within five working days. Please include the page, what you were trying to do, and the assistive technology you were using.
Enforcement
If you are not happy with our response, you can contact the Equality Advisory and Support Service (EASS). Public sector bodies are regulated under the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) Accessibility Regulations 2018.
